MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517058977 A) filed by Neste Oyj, Espoo, Finland, on June 19, for 'methods and systems for harvesting a biomass containing algal cells.'

Inventor(s) include Churn, Cecil Calvert III; Still, Cecilia Alexandra; and Kanel, Jeffrey Scott.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for harvesting a biomass containing algal cells. The methods include obtaining a stream containing an algal growth medium, algal cells and/or prokaryotes from an algal aquaculture, treating the stream by reducing or excluding light to obtain an algal harvester feed stream having a dissolved oxygen content less than about 8 mg dissolved oxygen (DO)/liter, and feeding at least part of the algal harvester feed stream into a harvester. Systems for providing the above methods, an algal harvester feed stream and compositions including algal cells are also provided."

The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 22, 2023, under International application No.PCT/US2023/085723.
