MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521046335 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Maharashtra, on May 14, 2025, for 'methods for stabilization of alpha-fapbi3 phase within a pvdf matrix for improved light-assisted energy harvesting.'

Inventor(s) include Prasanna Kumar S Mural; Aswani Yella; and Niloy Mridha.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A composite material comprising: a crystalline a-phase formamidinium lead iodide (a-FAPbI3) perovskite present as discrete domains having a perovskite crystal structure with cubic symmetry; and a continuous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer matrix, wherein the a-FAPbI3 domains are uniformly dispersed within and physically surrounded by the PVDF matrix, and wherein the composite is characterised in that: the a-FAPbI3 domains retain the a-phase crystallographic structure at ambient conditions of 25 5 C and 1 atm for a duration of at least six months, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction; the composite exhibits a direct optical bandgap in the range of 1.48 0.15 eV, as determined by UV-visible absorption analysis using a Tauc plot; and the composite exhibits an electrical output under combined mechanical deformation and optical irradiation that is measurably higher than the output under mechanical deformation alone."
