MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001482 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 6, for 'micro-grip retrieval probe for safe removal of protective materials from implant screw access channels.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Deepanjali M.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a dental retrieval instrument specifically fabricated for the safe and atraumatic removal of protective materials from implant screw access channels. The instrument comprises an ergonomically contoured cylindrical handle, a shank extending distally from the handle for axial stability and torque transmission, and a flexible tip connected to the shank. A spiral barb end is integrally formed at the distal terminus of the flexible tip, the spiral barb end comprising blunt, rounded micro-barbs arranged helically and configured to securely engage fibrous or polymeric materials such as cotton pellets or polytetrafluoroethylene tape without penetrating, scratching, or abrading adjacent implant components. The flexible tip is fabricated from a shape-memory alloy enabling navigation through narrow, deep, or angulated channels. In use, controlled rotational engagement embeds the micro-barbs into the protective material, allowing intact single-motion retrieval. The invention thereby improves clinical safety, efficiency, and reliability during implant maintenance and prosthodontic procedures."
