MUMBAI, India, Nov. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411026112 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on March 29, 2024, for 'modular book shelf.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Chamkaur Singh; Navneet Katoch; Sahil Choudhary; and Teena Bali.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 28, under issue no. 48/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A modular book shelf, comprises an inverted U-shaped frame 1 installed on a vertical support, plurality of suction cups 2 adheres to surface of the support, a first and second roller 3 coiled with a sheet 4 accommodates books by forming a bag like structure, an imaging unit 5 captures images of the vicinity of the frame 1, a motorized sliding unit translates the roller 3 for increasing/decreasing dimensions of the structure, a DC motor provides rotating movement to the second roller 3, a robotic link 6 holds the accommodated books, an extendable U-shaped plate 7 positioned underneath the sagged structure, motorized hinge joint 8 provides converging/diverging movement to the plate 7, a LiDAR sensor detects sharp edges of the books."
