MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123018 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'molecular docking analysis of luteolin on sars-cov-2 main protease.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Gayathri M; Mr Debojyoti Sarkar; Ms Shreya Raghuraman; and Ms Sonal Susan Siby.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method (100) for molecular docking analysis of luteolin on SARS-CoV-2 main protease. The method (100) includes retrieving (102) a three-dimensional structure of SARS-CoV-2 main protease from a protein database (2), removing (104) water molecules and heteroatoms to prepare a clean receptor, adding (106) hydrogen atoms for proper protonation, preparing (108) a luteolin ligand structure from a chemical database, performing (110) energy minimization using a molecular mechanics force field (94), defining (112) a grid box around an active site to establish a search space, executing (114) molecular docking to generate binding poses and calculate binding affinities, determining (116) whether binding affinity values indicate favorable interactions, and when favorable, analyzing (118) binding interactions and generating visualizations, and when not favorable, optimizing (120) docking parameters and repeating the analysis."
