MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411019134 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on March 15, 2024, for 'mounting for an airbag in a vehicle and system to adjust stiffness of the mounting.'
Inventor(s) include Bhanuprasad Puttaswamayya; and Satish Gowda.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A mounting (100) for an airbag (110) in a vehicle and a system (200) thereof includes an electromagnetic mechanism (102) disposed between an encasing (112) of the airbag (110) and a cross beam (114) of the vehicle. The electromagnetic mechanism (102), when actuated, provides a rigid support to the encasing (112) of the airbag (110) for an efficient deployment of the airbag (110), and when not actuated, allows sliding of the encasing (112) of the airbag (110) to absorb an impact on the encasing (112) of the airbag (110). A control unit (202) of the system (200) actuates/ deactuates the electromagnetic mechanism (102) based on status i.e. fastening/ unfastening, of seat belt (206) of corresponding passenger seat (204)."
