MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001480 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 6, for 'multispectral clip-on smartphone adapter for standardized optical imaging and risk scoring of oral potentially malignant disorders.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Arthi Sri A. S.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a portable multispectral clip-on smartphone adapter for standardized optical imaging and AI-assisted risk scoring of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). The device comprises a compact clip-on housing configured to mount over a smartphone camera, a multispectral illumination module including white, blue, and green light-emitting diodes, and an optical contrast enhancement assembly comprising filters and diffusers to reduce glare and enhance mucosal features. An imaging alignment frame with a tubular guide maintains fixed distance, angle, and magnification between the smartphone camera and oral tissue, ensuring reproducible image capture. An electronic control circuit selectively activates the illumination modes and interfaces with the smartphone through a wired or wireless communication interface. A dedicated smartphone application processes multispectral images using artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze color, texture, vascular patterns, borders, and autofluorescence characteristics, generating digital severity scores, risk heatmaps, and longitudinal comparisons. The invention provides a standardized, non-invasive, and scalable oral diagnostic solution for screening and monitoring OPMDs."
