MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202544039233 A) filed by Nokia Technologies Oy, Espoo, Finland, on April 23, for 'network elements adapted for seamless user plane communication path recovery.'

Inventor(s) include Philippe Godin; Bruno Landais; and Laurent Thiebaut.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 14, under issue no. 46/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method of a multicast broadcast session management function (MB-SMF) of a communication network comprising: transmitting, to a radio access network (RAN) node, a request to setup a broadcast session for a multicast broadcast service (MBS) in the RAN node; receiving, from the RAN node, a response to the request to setup the broadcast session, the response including a transport layer address of the RAN node for use in setting up a user plane communication path between the RAN node and a multicast broadcast user plane function (MB-UPF) for the broadcast session; receiving, from the RAN node, an indication that the RAN node supports a seamless user plane communication path recovery process; transferring the transport layer address of the RAN node to the MB-UPF to enable setup of the user plane communication path; receiving a notification from the MB-UPF indicative of failure of the user plane communication path; and sending, to the RAN node, a request to initiate the seamless user plane communication path recovery process and maintain the broadcast session."
