MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411005917 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Jan. 29, 2024, for 'one-pot synthesis of cardanol based resin for superhydrophobic wood coating.'
Inventor(s) include Sahoo Sushanta Kumar; and John Ben.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The one-pot process for synthesis of bio-resin for super-hydrophobic wood coating is developed utilizing cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) sourced cardanol without the inclusion of silane, fluorine and nanoparticles. The esterification of cardanol-based diol is carried out using saturated fatty acids, which improved the hydrophobic properties of the developed resin. The polymerization process does not involve any initiator, catalyst and curing agent. The crosslinked bio-resins showed excellent thermal stability (250 C), solvent (THF, acetone, hexane, DCM, DMSO), and chemical resistance (pH 3-11) and also displayed superhydrophobicity (contact angle 150 and hysteresis 5). The esterified bio-resin exhibits excellent self-cleaning and anti-icing properties compared to commercial polyurethane coatings."
