MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411023166 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 24, 2024, for 'onion harvesting assistive device.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An onion harvesting assistive device, comprising an elongated body 1 having distal and proximal end, a handle 2 attached with the body 1 that is accessed by a user to position the distal end through, an onion to be harvested, an artificial intelligence based imaging unit 3 installed on body 1 to determine presence of onion, a laser projector 4 installed on the body 1 to project laser light over detected onion for informing the user to position the distal end over the onion, a plate 5 configured with the body 1 integrated with, a motorized drawer arrangement to provide extension to plate 5, a flap 5 configured with each of the plate 5 for gripping onion in between the flaps and plate 5, plurality of telescopic curved links 6 configured the flaps for digging soil, a pair of blades 7 installed on body 1 for cutting leaves of onions."
