MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202547067794 A) filed by Ciena Corporation, Hanover, U.S.A., on July 16, for 'optical delay calibration and compensation in optical modules.'
Inventor(s) include Maniloff, Eric S.; Rhody, Benard J.; Gareau, Sebastien; Leckie, Will; and Thiboutot, Bernard.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An optical module (10) includes a transmitter assembly (12); a receiver assembly (14); and circuitry (16) connected to the transmitter assembly (12) and the receiver assembly (14), wherein the circuity (16) is configured to, responsive to a test of delay in each of the transmitter assembly (12) and the receiver assembly (14), store a delay value for one or more of the transmitter assembly (12) and the receiver assembly (14). The circuitry (16) can include one or more delay elements (300) each configured to add a respective configured amount of delay in one or more of a transmit direction and a receive direction within the optical module (10). The approach described herein compensates for any delay uncertainty in the optical module, without relying on external reporting for compensation at higher layer protocols."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 21, 2023, under International application No.PCT/US2023/085387.
