MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (201841036673 A) filed by The General Manager, Cordite Factory Aruvankadu, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, on Sept. 28, 2018, for 'perforated bi-modular charge system (bmcs) grain (126 mm length) for 155 mm ammunition.'
Inventor(s) include P. Balasubramanian, Joint General Manager; and N. Sidharthan, Junior Works Manager.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention is in the field of propellant. In particular, the invention is in Triple Base Propellant grain of Bi-Modular Charge System (BMCS) Rosette geometry with seven holes for 155mm Ammunition. The invention is useful for easy filling in the combustible cartridge case modules. This invention will eliminate one process called picking operation (removal of undersize, slant cut propellant from the bulk) which results in increase in productivity during filling operation. This invention helps to eliminate the problem of slant cutting of normal propellant grains which is very difficult to stack in layer by layer during filling. This invention is useful to minimise the round to round variation in the dynamic proof."
