MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517056182 A) filed by Interdigital Ce Patent Holdings, Sas, Paris, on June 11, for 'planar horizontal, planar vertical mode, and planar directional mode.'
Inventor(s) include Chen, Ya; Naser, Karam; Dumas, Thierry; and Rath, Gagan Bihari.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for performing planar horizontal mode, planar vertical mode, and/or planar directional mode intra-prediction. Planar intra-prediction modes may be used in video coding for coding blocks. Directionality of planar intra-prediction modes may be used to determine a reference region and/or template. For example, a cross-component linear model (CCLM) or a multi-model linear model mode may be determined based on the direction of the planar mode. A reference region of chroma decoder-side intra mode derivation (DIMD) or convolutional cross-component model (CCCM) for a chroma block may be determined based on a planar mode associated with a collocated luma block. For example, a reference region or template for template-based intra mode derivation (TIMD) or spatial geometric partitioning mode (SGPM) may be determined based on the direction of the planar mode."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 21, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/087416.
