MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025519 A) filed by Vignan Institute Of Pharmaceutical Technology, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on March 4, for 'point-of-care testing kits for pharmacists to monitor anticoagulant therapy in home settings.'
Inventor(s) include P. Prasanna Kumar; M. Lakshmi Banusri; M. Vinod Kumar; K. Priyadarshini Reddy; and BBVM Kishore.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention introduces a novel point-of-care testing kit designed specifically for pharmacists to monitor anticoagulant therapy in patients' home environments. This portable, user-friendly system enables real-time assessment of blood coagulation parameters, such as international normalized ratio (INR) and partial thromboplastin time (PTT), without requiring laboratory visits. By integrating advanced biosensors with wireless connectivity and a dedicated mobile application, the kit allows pharmacists to perform on-site tests during home visits, instantly analyze results, and adjust medication dosages accordingly. This innovation addresses the challenges of traditional monitoring methods by reducing patient travel burdens, minimizing delays in therapy adjustments, and enhancing overall safety through encrypted data transmission to healthcare providers. The kit's compact design incorporates disposable test strips, a handheld analyzer, and AI-driven predictive algorithms to forecast potential bleeding or clotting risks, thereby improving patient outcomes in long-term anticoagulant management for conditions like atrial fibrillation or deep vein thrombosis."
