MUMBAI, India, Aug. 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411011079 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 16, 2024, for 'portable ear tag piercing device for cattle.'

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 29, under issue no. 35/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A portable ear tag piercing device for cattle, comprising a X-shaped frame 1 having a pair of rods 7 connected with each other by means of a pivot joint 2, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 4, for determining positioning of an animal, an inbuilt microcontroller determine part of animal where piercing is to be performed for actuating a laser projection unit5 to focus light on a point on animal's part to guide user, an electromagnetically powered spring 6 is actuated by microcontroller to expand/contract for forcing ends of rod 7 on to get diverge/converge, respectively and a telescopically operated sharp pin 8 extended for forcing pin 8 against point to perform piercing on animal, a tag plate 10 actuated by microcontroller to get extended for engaging tag onto pierced hole, followed by fixing of a fastener at back of engaged tag on animal's part by user."
