MUMBAI, India, Nov. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531106399 A) filed by Jis College Of Engineering, Kalyani, West Bengal, on Nov. 3, for 'pothole detection and speed reduction system for vehicles.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Tushar Ghorui; Ms. Sukanya Das; Dr. Suparna Das Gupta; Dr. Soumyabrata Saha; Mr. Sudarshan Nath; Dr. Subhram Das; Dr. Papri Ghosh; and Dr. Ipsita Saha.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 28, under issue no. 48/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an AI-driven pothole detection and speed reduction system for vehicles, integrating computer vision, autonomous speed control, and GPS-based mapping. The system captures real-time video of road surfaces using a camera and processes the frames with a deep learning model trained to detect potholes accurately. Upon detection, the system automatically reduces the vehicle's speed to minimize passenger discomfort and vehicle damage, and records the pothole's GPS location in a database. The collected data can be used for route optimization and proactive road maintenance. This invention provides real-time, automated pothole detection, enhances road safety, improves driving comfort, and supports efficient infrastructure management."
