MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123418 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'precision in practice: the clinical utility of extended manual leucocyte counting.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. N. Sruthi; Dr. Sonti Sulochana; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a precise and reproducible method for extended manual leukocyte counting in clinical hematology. It enables accur~te identification of standard leukocyte subtypes-neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytesJ eosinophils, and basophils-along with atypical and inm1ature fom1s such as blasts, prorrtyelocytes, myelocytes, metamyelocytes, plasma cells, and reactive lymphocytes. The prodess integrates peripheral blood smear preparation, Romanowsky-type staining, and midroscopic examination at high magnification, followed by category-specific tallying using a m~nual or electronic counter. Total leukocyte counts are obtained via hemocytometer and comfuined with differential-~ounts to calculate absolute values. Precision is ensured through rep~atability, inter-observer reproducibility, coefficients of variation, and quality control agai~st reference samples 2nd automated analyzers. This extended system functions as both a diagnostic and contirmatory tool,I offering enhanced detection of abnormal cells often overlooked by automation. Particularly I beneficial for hematological disorder diagnosis, therapy monitoring, and resource-limited settings, the invention delivers reliable, traceable~ and clinically actionable hematology data."
