MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517093635 A) filed by Apple Inc., Cupertino, U.S.A., on Sept. 29, for 'random access channel (rach) -less handover (ho) for non-terrestrial networks (ntn).'
Inventor(s) include Xu, Fangli; Hu, Haijing; Chen, Yuqin; Cui, Jie; Li, Qiming; Ye, Chunxuan; Yao, Chunhai; and Zhang, Dawei.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Some aspects of this disclosure relate to apparatuses and methods for implementing mechanisms for Random Access Channel (RACH) -less handover for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). For example, a user equipment (UE) is configured to receive, using a transceiver and from a source base station, a handover command to perform a Random Access Channel (RACH) -less handover operation to a target base station. The handover command includes a timing advance (TA) configuration. The UE is further configured to determine, based on the TA configuration of the handover command, a TA value for uplink (UL) transmission to the target base station. The processor is further configured to transmit, using the transceiver and to the target base station, an initial UL transmission based on the determined TA value."
The patent application was internationally filed on Apr. 04, 2023, under International application No.PCT/CN2023/086247.
