MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102328 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 24, 2025, for 'real-time traffic monitoring and forecasting system for urban road networks.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A real-time traffic monitoring and forecasting system for urban road networks, comprises of multiple capturing module 101 positioned to capture video footage of traffic on road segments, a vehicle detection module 102 configured to process the video footage and identify multiple vehicle types including trucks, buses, cars, motorcycles, and three-wheelers, a vehicle counting and speed estimation module 103 operatively coupled to the detection module 102, configured to track vehicles frame-by-frame, record distance and time data, and compute average vehicle speed and count data in real-time, a data aggregation unit 104 configured to collect the vehicle count and speed data to form a numerical dataset, and a traffic forecasting module 105 adapted to predict traffic flow parameters including vehicle count and average speed, and a traffic management interface 106 configured to provide predicted traffic insights to authority systems for optimizing traffic signal timing and congestion reduction."
