MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517055808 A) filed by Interdigital Ce Patent Holdings, Sas, Paris, on June 10, for 'reference sample selection for cross-component intra prediction.'
Inventor(s) include Bordes, Philippe; Naser, Karam; Dumas, Thierry; and Galpin, Franck.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The cross-component model generally describes a relation between the luma samples and associated chroma samples. Using the cross-component model parameters derived based on a neighboring region, the chroma samples of the current block can be predicted from the collated reconstructed luma samples. Because the cross-component model parameters are derived at both the encoder and decoder, these model parameters need not to be signaled explicitly and therefore can reduce signaling overhead. In one implementation, to make the derived model more accurate, the signal characteristics of the luma reference samples are selected to better match the signal characteristics of the reconstructed luma samples in the current block, using at least one of histogram of the neighboring samples, shape of the current block and intra mode direction. After the neighboring region is selected, the region can be further refined by using a set of region variants."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 04, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/084047.
