MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049400 A) filed by J. J. College Of Engineering And Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'refrigerator with expiration date scanner.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The technique, system, and computer program product for controlling shelf life expiry dates in smart refrigerators are the subject of the current invention. By using a loyalty card, magnetic stripe, or RFID device, the invention makes it possible to identify a customer during a point-of-sale transaction. It also makes it easier to send a list of food items that have been purchased to a smart refrigerator, either through the identification device or a computer communications network. Food shelf life can be automatically monitored and managed thanks to the system's determination and storage of expiration dates for the purchased goods within the smart refrigerator."
