The method identifies (504, 604) a file system metadata snapshot tree associated with a particular version, wherein the particular version is associated with a particular point in time, later than the first point in time. A copy of the file system metadata snapshot tree is created with is associated with the particular version, wherein creating the copy of the file system metadata snapshot tree includes creating (506, 606) a copy of a root node of the file system metadata snapshot tree and copying one or more references to one or more lower tier nodes of the file system metadata snapshot tree associated with the particular version. The copied file system metadata snapshot tree are modified (808) which is associated with the particular version based on one or more transaction log files associated with the database to create a modified file system metadata snapshot tree, wherein the modified file system metadata snapshot tree is associated with a specified moment in time, later than the particular point in time. A secondary storage system is provided which could be adapted to implement the method."
