MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048301 A) filed by Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 16, for 'ridemate smart bus tracking and crowd alerts.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Yuvaraj P; Mr. Vishnu Vardhan G; Mr. Krishna Raj H; and Dr. T. Manikandan.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention presents a smart public transportation system designed to address challenges associated with overcrowding and inefficient vehicle tracking. It integrates real time passenger counting and GPS based vehicle monitoring using an ESP32 microcontroller, infrared sensors, and a cloud backend. Infrared sensors positioned at entry and exit points detect passenger movement and accurately maintain occupancy count, while GPS data from the driver application provides continuous location updates. All data is transmitted to a Firebase database for storage and synchronization, enabling low latency access. The system includes a mobile application with driver mode and rider mode, allowing secure tracking, route management, and live occupancy viewing. This integrated approach improves travel planning, enhances safety, reduces waiting time, and supports efficient fleet management. The system demonstrates scalability, responsiveness, and suitability for deployment in urban transportation environments. It also minimizes manual errors and enables continuous monitoring for better coordination between passengers and drivers effectively."
