Inventor(s) include Dr. Subasree. S; Adharsha ST; Aro Marya Adam R; Kanisgha Varssini C; and Meenashree Jagadeeshkumar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The contemporary cities of the world are still dealing with very serious issues like increased traffic congestion and safety problems, which require a smarter and more efficient method for traffic management. The static signals that are applied in the classical traffic control methods are partially effective, however, they frequently lead to longer waiting times, more fuel consumption, and lower overall traffic flow efficiency. The Smart Traffic Control System that is being introduced in this work is an Al-based system that will be making real-time decisions based on the live data received from the cameras and the sensors. The system through the combination of computer vision and deep learning techniques is aware of the number of cars, their movements, pedestrians, and even the presence of emergency vehicles at the intersections. The system then adjusts the signal timing according to this data to facilitate traffic flow, reduce congestion, and waiting time to the lowest possible levels. The normal signal patterns can be momentarily overridden by the system when an emergency vehicle is detected, thereby permitting passage at the same time ensuring both safety and quicker emergency response. The Al-led strategy in the traffic management domain thus brings about huge differences as compared to the traditional systems by promoting the flow, reducing the travel time, and making the intersections safe for both drivers and pedestrians."
