MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441036652 A) filed by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Trust, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 9, 2024, for 'scleral fixated intraocular lens.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The embodiments herein provide a scleral fixated intraocular lens (IOL) (100) designed for sutureless implantation in an eye. The scleral fixated intraocular lens (100) includes an optic (102) devised for vision correction and at least one haptic (104) integrated with the optic, is equipped with at least one stem (106) adapted for insertion through sclerotomies and 5 subsequent positioning under scleral flaps for securing the scleral fixated IOL (100) accurately positioned in the eye. The haptic (104) is angled to mitigate friction against ocular tissues, thereby averting a risk of inflammation in the eye. A scleral fixated intraocular lens (IOL) system further includes the scleral fixated IOL (100) and a cartridge for implanting 10 the scleral fixated IOL (100) into the eye through an incision. The implantation of the scleral fixated IOL (100) into the eye is through an incision of less than 3mm size."
