MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048759 A) filed by Alle, Uday Kumar; and Dudam, Sailaja, Jagtiyal, Telangana, on April 16, for 'self-ligating orthodontic accessory eyelet bracket.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses an orthodontic eyelet bracket (100) and a method (1500) for auxiliary tooth engagement. The bracket includes base (104) configured for adhesive bonding to tooth surface and bracket body (102) extending from base (104). An eyelet ring (106) is connected to bracket body (102) and defines internal passage to receive orthodontic archwire (114) or orthodontic accessory. The eyelet ring (106) is formed from resilient material capable of elastic deformation. A slit (108) extends through eyelet ring (106) from an outer surface to the internal passage to permit temporary opening of the ring. A pressure indication component (110) is positioned on exterior surface adjacent to the slit (108). Application of pressure with orthodontic engagement instrument (112) on pressure indication component (110), opens slit (108) to allow lateral insertion of the archwire (114). The eyelet ring (106) returns to closed position to retain the archwire (114) or orthodontic accessory."
