MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411029994 A) filed by Glocal University, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on April 13, 2024, for 'sensor-based trocar cannula system for safe laparoscopic abdominal surgery.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Nighat Akhter; Ms. Iqra Farooq; Dr. Pramod Kumar; Dr. P. K. Bharti; and Mr. Mohit Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention introduces a sensor-based trocar cannula system designed to revolutionize laparoscopic abdominal surgery by enhancing safety, precision, and surgical outcomes. Traditional laparoscopic procedures often rely on blind trocar placement techniques, which pose risks of inadvertent organ injury and complications. The sensor-based system addresses these challenges by integrating pressure and force sensors into the trocar cannula, allowing real-time feedback on organ positioning during insertion. This feedback assists surgeons in navigating the gastrointestinal tract with accuracy and confidence, minimizing the risk of complications such as vascular damage and bowel perforation. The system's compatibility with standard laparoscopic instruments ensures seamless integration into surgical workflows, while its sterile, single-use design maintains patient safety and reduces the risk of cross-contamination."
