MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104300 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 29, 2025, for 'shopping trolley system for automated billing in retail stores.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A shopping trolley system for automated billing in retail stores, comprising an RFID reader 101 configured to detect RFID-tagged products placed within the trolley, a microcontroller 102 configured to control the RFID reader 101 and process product identification data, a display module 103 configured to show product details and their respective prices in real time, a billing module 104 configured to compute and update the total bill dynamically as products are added or removed, a control button 105 configured to finalize the purchase by generating the total bill, a verification unit 106 configured to enable checkout authentication using a master card, the system automates billing operations, reduces manpower requirements, and minimizes waiting time at the billing counter by integrating real-time product detection and price computation in the shopping trolley."
