MUMBAI, India, Aug. 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517074829 A) filed by Jfe Steel Corporation, Tokyo, on Aug. 6, for 'sill structure of automobile and vehicle body lower structure.'

Inventor(s) include Higai, Kazuhiko; Yamamoto, Takayuki; Shiozaki, Tsuyoshi; Ishikawa, Toshiharu; Nakagaito, Tatsuya; Kawasaki, Yoshiyasu; and Toji, Yuki.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 29, under issue no. 35/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A closed cross-sectional space 3 inside a side sill 1 is provided with an impact absorption structure 4 by using a vertical partition member 2 that runs vertically through the inside of this space. The impact absorption structure 4 is formed by a lateral partition member 5 that crosses, in the vehicle width direction, closed cross-sectional spaces 3a, 3b on a car body inner side and outer side partitioned by the vertical partition member 2, and a bulkhead 6 provided along the vehicle width direction inside upper-side spaces 30a, 30b partitioned by the lateral partition member 5. The lateral partition member 5 of the car body inner side and outer side, and the bulkhead 6 are disposed to face each other with the vertical partition member 2 therebetween, and beads are formed along the vehicle width direction on the lateral partition member 5. This side sill structure can provide the desired collision properties even if the number of bulkheads 6 installed is reduced. Thus, it is possible to obtain high impact energy absorption properties with a small collision deformation amount, while suppressing a weight increase due to the structural members."

The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 10, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/040552.
