MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411030260 A) filed by Batx Energies Private Limited, Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, on April 15, 2024, for 'single-reactor method and system for direct electrochemical conversion of black mass of used batteries.'
Inventor(s) include Vikrant Singh; Hemant Kumar; and Vikash Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A single-reactor method (100) for direct electrochemical conversion of black mass (204) of used batteries into ionic liquids, involves introducing the black mass (204) into a reactor (200) and agitating black mass (204) with reducing agent (206) within the reactor (200) to form mixture comprising anode and cathode materials. Leaching is performed on the mixture within a set of predefined conditions, resulting in formation of an aqueous solution of metals ionic liquid. The aqueous solution of the metals ionic liquid is filtered in circulation with filter press (210) in reactor (200) to remove solid anode materials. A DC current is applied to initiate electrochemical reaction in aqueous solution of metals ionic liquid under predefined voltage range and predefined current density within same reactor to deposit impurities on cathode plate (214), resulting in aqueous ionic solution of metal salts comprising cations of metal elements."
