Inventor(s) include Patil Shruti Sunil; Mrs. Dhanshri Madan Mali; Shete Sudarshan Jagdish; Deshmukh Kedar Vishal; Shikalgar Iquanahamad Mohammadnayeem; Bhosale Shreya Dadaso; and Deshmukh Utkarsha Abhimanyu.
The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A smart real-time electricity monitoring and alert system is disclosed, which automates the reading of conventional electricity meters using a Raspberry Pi and camera module in combination with OCR software. The system captures images of the meter display to obtain consumption readings and compares these readings against predefined usage thresholds. When consumption crosses specified percentages of a user's monthly limit (e.g. 50%, 75%, 90%), the system automatically issues alerts via email and SMS, enabling consumers to take timely action. The device features local data logging on a USB drive for offline use, and can optionally sync data to cloud storage for remote monitoring. The entire system is designed as a low-cost, easily deployable retrofit to existing meters, aimed at improving energy awareness and management through real-time consumption tracking and threshold-based alerts."
