MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541060681 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on June 25, for 'smartsign: gesture-based communication and environmental awareness glove for the hearing and speech impaired.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The gesture-based communication and environmental awareness glove for hearing and speech impaired individuals. The SmartSign system uses flex sensors and accelerometer to precisely identify and interpret sign language gestures as text or speech. The invention also includes sound sensing modules to identify significant environmental sounds like doorbells and mobile phone ringtones and alert the user through vibration patterns. The system also supports smart home control functionality, where users can control lighting, fans, and other appliances using particular hand gestures. The SmartSign glove improves the communication skills and awareness of deaf and mute individuals, leading to more independence and enhanced quality of life."
