MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517059458 A) filed by Robert Bosch Gmbh, Stuttgart, Germany, on June 20, for 'spark plug with ground electrode inserted into the housing wall and improved heat balance.'
Inventor(s) include Kaske, Stephan; and Blankmeister, Matthias.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a spark plug (1) having a longitudinal axis X, comprising * a housing (2) having a longitudinal bore parallel to the longitudinal axis X of the spark plug (1), whereby the housing (2) has a housing wall (20) and an interior (21), * an insulator (3) arranged inside the housing (2) * a centre electrode (4) arranged inside the insulator (3), * a ground electrode (5) having a total length LMaEI and a diameter of DMaEI, * a bore (50) in the housing wall (20) having a diameter of DBohr, wherein the ground electrode (5) having a length LBohr is arranged in this bore (50) and the ground electrode (5) having a length Lem projects from the inside (20a) of the housing wall (20) into the interior (21) of the housing (2), and wherein, in the region of the bore (50), the housing wall (20) has a thickness Lwall, and * a spark gap (45), that is formed between the ground electrode (5) and the centre electrode (4), wherein the ratio of the total length LMaEI of the ground electrode (5) to the length LBohr of the ground electrode (5) in the bore (50) is greater than or equal to 1.8 and less than or equal to 2.2 and/or the ratio of the length Lem, with which the ground electrode (5) projects into the interior (21) of the housing (2), to the thickness Lwall of the housing wall (20) is greater than or equal to 0.2 and less than or equal to 3, wherein the lengths or the thickness extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the spark plug (1)."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 05, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/084343.
