MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611024470 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on March 2, for 'sustainable cafe with biogas plant for cooking process.'
Inventor(s) include Priyanka Joshi; Mehak; Priyanka Chugh; Dr. Nitin Pathak; Dr. Sukhmani Kaur; and Dr. Preeti Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a sustainable cafe model that integrates rainwater harvesting, passive cooling architecture, water-efficient operations, and renewable energy generation within a compact food-service establishment. The system includes a rooftop rainwater catchment surface, first-flush diversion unit, multi-stage filtration assembly, and storage tanks for reuse of rainwater in non-potable applications such as cleaning, sanitation, toilet flushing, and gardening. The cafe structure employs eco-friendly materials and natural ventilation pathways to achieve passive cooling and reduce dependence on artificial air-conditioning and electrical lighting. Water-efficient fixtures and greywater segregation further minimize freshwater consumption. Additionally, an on-site biogas system converts organic kitchen waste into renewable cooking fuel while producing nutrient-rich digestate for reuse. The present invention provides a modular, scalable, and replicable eco-efficient cafe framework that reduces operational costs, conserves resources, and promotes environmentally responsible hospitality practices."
