Inventor(s) include Dr. Navneet Verma; Prof. Bhoomika; Prof. Archana Shaha; Dr. B. Naveena; Ms. Huzaifa; Priyanka Bhardwaj; Dr. Falgun Gunvantray Dhabaliya; and Dr. Antesh Kumar Jha.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to sustained release gastroprotective tablet formulations comprising pectin and fenugreek seed mucilage as natural polymeric matrix-forming agents. The invention provides novel tablet compositions utilizing the synergistic combination of pectin derived from citrus or apple sources and galactomannan-rich fenugreek seed mucilage extracted from Trigonella foenum-graecum to achieve controlled drug release over eight to twenty-four hours. The formulations comprise pectin in concentrations of ten to forty percent and fenugreek mucilage in concentrations of five to thirty percent by weight, along with therapeutically effective amounts of gastroprotective active pharmaceutical ingredients and pharmaceutically acceptable excipients. The tablets exhibit excellent swelling characteristics, robust matrix integrity, and mucoadhesive properties that enhance gastric retention and therapeutic efficacy. The invention also provides a wet granulation-based manufacturing process scalable and compatible with conventional pharmaceutical production equipment. The tablets demonstrate superior drug release kinetics following the Higuchi diffusion model and maintain stability under accelerated storage conditions."
