MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431006558 A) filed by Jamipol Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Jan. 31, 2024, for 'synthetic slag compositions for steel making and methods thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Neha Jha; and Sambhunath Chakraborty.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a synthetic slag composition for steel making. The synthetic slag composition of the present disclosure comprises about 40-80 wt% silica (SiO2) and about 3-20 wt% alkali metal ions. In some embodiments, the synthetic slag composition also 5 comprises alumina, chlorides, CaO, MgO, and Fe2O3. The present disclosure also provides a process for steel making comprising heating a raw material charge to obtain molten charge and adding the synthetic slag composition to the molten charge to obtain a composite slag and molten metal. The composite slag allows easy removal of the slag from the molten metal which in turn results in lower metal loss and lower non-metallic inclusions. The synthetic slag 10 composition of the present disclosure also helps in maintaining the life of the refractory lining of the furnace for a longer duration."
