MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611007360 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, on Jan. 25, for 'system, apparatus and method for wideband spectrum sensing at sub-nyquist rates.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention pertains to cognitive radio technology, specifically a digital hardware architecture for sub-Nyquist-based wideband spectrum sensing to identify underutilized spectrum bands up to 15 GHz. Conventional approaches face challenges including computational complexity, extended sensing times, reliance on high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) (110-1 to 110-p), bulky radio-frequency frontends, and vulnerability to signal-to-noise ratio wall issues in low SNR conditions. The solution involves a system (100) comprising a wideband receiving antenna (102), analog radio-frequency frontend module (ARFM) (104), multi-coset sampler (MCS) (106) for sparse sampling, and wideband spectrum sensor (WBSS) (108) with interpolation unit (INTU) (114), eigenvalues and eigenvectors computation module (EECM) (116) using power method and deflation, exponential fitting test computation module (ECM) (118), MUSIC-based computation block (MCB) (120), and control unit (122). This architecture enables low-rate ADCs, dual-clock operation for efficiency, eigenvalue-based reliable detection free from SNR wall problems, reduced hardware resources, and shorter sensing times."
