MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122131 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'system and method for automated alveoli infection detection using convolutional neural networks.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Vijayasherly V; Mr. Akshat Jain; Yash Parate; and Manan Mehta.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system for automated alveoli infection detection comprising a data processing unit configured to receive chest X-ray images, an image preprocessing module configured to apply a sequential preprocessing pipeline to enhance image quality and feature visibility, a convolutional neural network comprising convolutional layers with activation functions, pooling layers, and an output layer configured for binary classification, and a classification module configured to generate a binary classification result indicating presence or absence of alveoli infection. The sequential preprocessing pipeline includes histogram equalization, gamma correction, contrast stretching, adaptive histogram equalization, unsharp masking, white top hat transform, and local histogram equalization. The convolutional neural network includes three convolutional blocks with 32, 64, and 128 filters respectively, dropout layers, a flatten layer, and a dense layer preceding the output layer with sigmoid activation."
