MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511072572 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Kurukshetra, Haryana, on July 30, for 'system and method for controlling a drivetrain of a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Jangra, Preetam; Patidar, Chirag; Narayan, Lakshmi; Kumar, Sachin; Kumar, Vikas; and Dhanjal, Satnam Singh.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (400) for controlling a drivetrain (104) of a vehicle (102) is disclosed. The method (400) includes capturing (402), by at least one image sensor (106) mounted on the vehicle (102), a plurality of real-time images of a surrounding environment. The method (400) includes extracting (404), using a pre-trained machine learning model, one or more spatial features from the plurality of real-time images. The spatial features comprises at least one of an edge feature, corner feature, and texture feature. The method (400) further includes generating, using the pre-trained machine learning model, a probability score indicating a drive mode. A first probability score range indicates Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD) mode and a second probability score range indicates Two-Wheel-Drive (2WD) mode. The method (400) further includes determining the drive mode based on the probability score and controlling the drivetrain (104) based on the drive mode."
