MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311082456 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 4, 2023, for 'system and method for detecting intoxicated drivers.'

Inventor(s) include Anamika Jha; Vasudev Singh; and Shuaib Ahmed.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system (110) and method (400) for detecting intoxicated drivers. The system (110) receives one or more Near-Infrared (NIR) images (301) of a driver (104) from an image capturing unit (106), and determine a first value, a second value, and a third value using a first neural network (108-1), a second neural network (108-2), and a third neural network (108-3). The first neural network (108-1) determines the first value by processing facial attributes, the second neural network (108-2) determines the second value by processing physiological attributes, and the third neural network (108-3) determines the third value by processing thermographic attributes of the driver (104). The system (110) determines an output value based on the first, second, and third values, and the driver (104) is determined to be intoxicated if the output value is greater than a predetermined threshold."
