MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051406 A) filed by Srm University, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, on April 22, for 'system and method for estimating a state-of-charge of battery under dynamic operating conditions.'

Inventor(s) include Dasari, Sai Ram Surya Lakshmi Avanthika; Udumula, Ramanjaneya Reddy; and Bhamidi, Lokeshgupta.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and method (200) for estimating a State of Charge (SoC) of a battery (100) under dynamic operating conditions. The system comprises a current sensor (102), a voltage sensor (104), and a temperature sensor (106) connected to analog to digital converter inputs (110) of a controller (108). The controller initializes a Kalman filter (116) and loads a temperature-dependent lookup table (114) mapping open circuit voltage to SoC. At sampling intervals, the controller reads the sensor signals. During rest periods detected by comparing measured current to a zero current threshold, a first SoC estimate is obtained from the lookup table (114) based on measured voltage and temperature. During operation, a second SoC estimate is obtained by Coulomb counting integration. The obtained estimate is fused within the Kalman filter (116), which adaptively updates measurement noise covariance. The fused SoC is output via a communication interface (118) in real time. The system reduces estimation drift by 36-43% compared to traditional Kalman filters."
