MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621008740 A) filed by Sage University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Jan. 28, for 'system and method for explainable vehicle valuation.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Prashant Jain; Himanshu Raj; Dr. Ati Jain; Dr. Ritu Tandon; and Prof. Snehlata Mishra.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A vehicle valuation system (100) for explainable vehicle valuation includes a telematics device (110) configured to collect driving behavior data from a vehicle (102), an image capture device (104), a communication interface (108), and a hardware processor (106). The hardware processor (106) obtains a driving behavior score by analyzing the driving behavior data to detect harsh braking events, harsh acceleration events, and over-speeding events. The hardware processor (106) analyzes the at least one geo-tagged image using a trained convolutional neural network model (116) to generate a condition score representing physical damage. The hardware processor (106) generates a vehicle valuation by combining the driving behavior score, the condition score, and vehicle metadata with weighted values. The hardware processor (106) generates an explainability report comprising monetary contribution values indicating how the driving behavior score and the condition score individually contribute to the vehicle valuation."
