MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311082844 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 5, 2023, for 'system and method for generating synthetic data for eye-gaze estimation.'

Inventor(s) include Anuraag Bhattacharya; Rahul Tallamraju; Shuaib Ahmed; and Venkata Gowrisetty.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system and a method for generating synthetic data for eye-gaze estimation. The system generates a synthetic environment that includes a synthetic character (104) corresponding to a driver driving a vehicle, where eyes of the synthetic character (104) track a position of an object (106) in a region of interest (108). The system generates one or more synthetic images based on the synthetic environment to estimate a 3D position of a midpoint of the eyes. The system generates a 3D vector based on a 3D position of the object (106) in the region of interest (108) and the 3D position of the midpoint of the eyes. The system determines one or more eye-gaze angles based on the 3D vector. Further, the system trains a deep learning model for the eye-gaze estimation based at least on the one or more eye gaze angles."
