MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311086065 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 16, 2023, for 'system and method for pre-fetching map data along a route.'
Inventor(s) include Yusuf Mamajiwala; Hariharan Balakrishnan; Sammitha Badyala Krishnamurthy; Stephan Schmid; and Lars Richter.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system and a method 600 for pre-fetching map data along a route. The method 600 includes fetching 602 route data from a database and fetching 604 a list of actual shape points, a bounding box size, and a pre-defined tile size corresponding to the route data. Further, the method 600 includes determining 606 a low-density part in the route data based on the fetched list of actual shape points. Furthermore, the method 600 includes interpolating 608 one or more shape points in the low-density part of the route data using a linear interpolation technique and creating 610 a bounding box around the list of actual shape points and the interpolated one or more shape points. Further the method 600 includes fetching 612 pre-defined map data along the route provided within the bounding box."
