MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085919 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 15, 2023, for 'system and method for proactively anticipating damage to a vehicle from an approaching object.'
Inventor(s) include Sarnab Debnath; Prasad Patil; Shiva Govinda; and Sheshagiri Belur Subramanya.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure pertains to a system (100) and a method in a vehicle (110) for proactively anticipating damages to the vehicle (110) due to an approaching object. It involves: detecting, through sensors (102) configured on the vehicle (110), objects and corresponding motion around the vehicle (110). It confirms, at a controller (106), if the vehicle (110) is parked by communicating with an ECU of the vehicle (110), and then actuating the sensors (102), upon confirmation of the parking. It also involves determining if any of the objects is approaching the vehicle (110), by obtaining detected motion of the objects from the actuated sensors. Further, it moves side mirrors (112) to extended position and activates corresponding camera (108), in case at least one of the objects is detected to be approaching the vehicle (110), wherein upon activation, the camera (108) captures images of the detected object."
