MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311086055 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 16, 2023, for 'system and method for verifying alcohol sample collection from users in a vehicle.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system (102) and a method for verifying alcohol sample collection from users in a vehicle. The system (102) includes an alcohol ignition lock (AIL) device (110) to receive a breathing sample from a user and determining alcohol consumption level of the user and correspondingly actuating the ignition unit. One or more first sensors configured with a seat belt to monitor a displacement of the seat belt. The system (102) monitors, the displacement of the seat belt when the AIL device (110) is moving from a homing position to a sample collection position (108). Simultaneously, the system (102) monitors, the alcohol consumption level at the sample collection position (108) and enables the AIL device (108) to unlock the ignition unit when the displacement of the seat belt within a first tolerance value, and the alcohol consumption level is detected to be below a threshold value."
