MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431005926 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Jan. 30, 2024, for 'system and method of automated scrap inspection.'
Inventor(s) include Md Zeyaul Hoda; Surojit Mondal; Shailendra Kumar Jha; Satyabrata Rout; and Chandan Kumar Yadav.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a method and system for automated scrap inspection. The method involves the detection of a vehicle loaded with scrap material on a scrap yard platform using a specialized vehicle detection model. Subsequently, a Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) sensor is triggered to perform volumetric analysis of the loaded scrap material. Threedimensional (3D) point cloud data is obtained based on the LIDAR sensor's triggering for the determination of the volume of the scrap material. The calculated volume is then displayed in real-time on a dedicated display unit. The method provides an efficient and automated approach to scrap inspection, integrating advanced technologies for accurate volumetric analysis and immediate visualization of the inspection results."
