MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411028363 A) filed by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, on April 6, 2024, for 'technology for the production of bioencapsulated cotton seeds with plant growth-promoting bacteria (pgpb).'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Mrs. Gulab Pandove; K V S Jahnavi; Dr. Anu Kalia; Dr. Sukdeep Kaur; Dr. Amandeep Singh Sidhu; and Dr. Sohan Singh Walia.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the bioencapsulation of cotton seeds with PGPB an environment-friendly technology that encapsulates beneficial bacteria using biopolymers on the surface of seeds to improve shelf stability, germination, and better performance under field conditions. The bioencapsulation of cotton seeds comprises an optimized formulation of seed coating agent (SCA) i.e., 1.5% sodium alginate 15 (PVA) as a binder, 7.5% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as an emulsifier, 5% starch as a filler, and 10% glycerol as a stabilizing agent."
