MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311068379 A) filed by Pakka Impact Ltd., Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Oct. 11, 2023, for 'valorization of waste lime sludge for manufacturing compostable bioplastic based products/articles.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Anshu Anjali Singh; Dr. Indranil Chakraborty; Dr. Ramjee Subramanian; and Sagar Shejwalkar.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a method (300) of manufacturing compostable bioplastic based articles. The method (300) comprising drying (301) lime sludge to remove the moisture content, the lime sludge being an industrial waste generated from the industries including more specifically from the pulp and paper industry and mixing (303) the dried lime sludge (101) with biopolymer/bioplastic material (103), and additive/compatibilizer (105) in a predetermined proportion. The dried lime sludge (101) contributes at least 10- 70% by weight, the biopolymer/bioplastic material (103) contributes at least 20-80% by weight, and the additive/compatibilizer (105) contributes at least 5-20% by weight. The method (300) further comprises compounding or extrusion of the (305) said mixture at a specified condition, generating (307) a plurality of mineral pellets after pelletization from the compounded mixture, and injection (309) moulding the plurality of mineral pellets to produce a plurality of articles."
