MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517098724 A) filed by Hyundai Motor Company; Kia Corporation; and Kwangwoon University Industry-Academic Collaboration Foundation, Seoul, Republic of Korea, on Oct. 13, for 'video coding method and device for selecting transform kernel and inverse transform kernel according to prediction mode.'
Inventor(s) include Sim, Dong Gyu; Lee, Min Hun; Park, Sea Nae; Choi, Jung Ah; Heo, Jin; and Park, Seung Wook.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present embodiment discloses a video coding method and device for selecting a transform kernel and an inverse transform kernel according to prediction mode. An image decoding device of the present embodiment acquires inverse-quantized transform coefficients for a transform block of the current block, and decodes non-separable transform information. Here, the non-separable transform information indicates whether non-separable inverse transform is applied, the non-separable inverse transform representing non-separable primary inverse transform or non-separable secondary inverse transform. If the non-separable inverse transform is performed according to the non-separable transform information, the image decoding device derives an intra prediction mode of the transform block according to a prediction mode of the current block. On the basis of the intra prediction mode and the size of the transform block, the image decoding device determines a non-separable inverse transform kernel corresponding to a non-separable primary inverse transform kernel or a non-separable secondary inverse transform kernel."
The patent application was internationally filed on Apr. 12, 2024, under International application No.PCT/KR2024/004885.
